In the end, it was the battery being low and a change solved the problem: „In Garmin Connect App and on my FR 255 the battery for HRM Pro was shown as „OK“. But during yesterdays run, an alert came up „Battery of HRM low“. I changed the battery today, also doing the „reverse polarity for 30 sec“ trick.

I've been wearing just the strap for about 2 hours. It appears that only heart rate and steps are being tracked. Stress is not. Body battery is being estimated. Stairs are not tracked. I would not consider this to be a replacement for daily activity tracking.

Yes they do that all the time after battery change. For their latest model they have abandoned the screw based cap, probably because they kept coming back. In three years time I went through 7 or 8 of the Garmin straps and they all died quickly after a battery change. Garmin kept replacing, but it’s really annoying.

2 months back, I opened the hrm-pro to replace the battery. hrm-pro indicated that the battery was not good anymore. After replacing everything was fine again. The first battery lasted for 11 months. I will try to remove the battery this evening to see if I can get the hrm-pro revived.

There’s a tension bar underneath the battery, so it’s normal for it to not sit level until you screw the top back on. Before I did this I measured around 300 ohm between the positive and negative terminals. After dehydrating I did not measure any resistance between positive and negative. I then added a new battery into the HRM Pro and found that it was working 100%. I then sealed my unit properly with silicone to prevent any moisture from entering the device.
